Advising

Undergraduates majoring in Chemistry have two sources of formal advising. The first is at the College of Arts and Sciences, on the third floor of the Steele Building, where students should go to verify overall graduation requirements, double major declarations or declaration of minor, course transfers, and to apply for graduation.

The second source of advising is in the Department of Chemistry where Dr. Todd Austell and Dr. Dom Tiani have been assigned as faculty advisors to all juniors and seniors. Dr. Austell and Dr. Tiani will assist students with questions concerning the curriculum, such as course requirements, choice of elective courses, and the appropriate order for taking courses, career opportunities in chemistry and related fields, and how to apply to graduate schools. Dr. Austell has office hours in his office, which is inKenan Laboratories, room 142, during the semester.

Other very useful resources for students are the Student Services Manager and his/her assistants. You will find them in Kenan Laboratories, room 140. As the first line of contact for advising and counseling students regarding academic procedures such as undergraduate research, Honors in Chemistry, degree requirements, pre- or corequisite information, awards/scholarships, pre-registration or registration, drop/add forms, etc., these staff members will be happy to be of help.

PRE-REGISTRATION
During March and October, before the weekends when seniors and juniors are scheduled to pre-register, appointment sheets are posted in Kenan Laboratories, room 140, for sign-up. Announcement of the advising days will be listed on the appropriate listserv.

Pre-registration appointments take place in the ADVISING OFFICE located in Kenan Laboratories, room 140, where Dr. Austell and Dr. Tiani will be available for consultation.

Bring your blue student worksheet listing the courses you plan on taking. These worksheets are available in Kenan Laboratories, room 140. During your advising appointment, one copy of your worksheet will be given to you for telephone or web pre-registration.

THE PRE-REGISTRATION ADVISING APPOINTMENT IS A CHEMISTRY DEPARTMENT REQUIREMENT.

CLEARANCE FOR PRE-REGISTRATION AND REGISTRATION WILL NOT BE RELEASED UNTIL YOU FIRST HAVE SEEN YOUR ADVISOR IN CHEMISTRY.
