My professional training was in mechanistic organometallics, a field that explores fundamental questions at the interface of organic and inorganic chemistry. This background serves as an intellectual scaffold for my goals as a chemical educator in several ways. First, I aim to develop pedagogies that challenge students to formulate and answer their own questions about organic and inorganic chemistry. Further, I target curricula that show students how the skills they learn in one class apply to another. Finally, I aim to develop laboratory experiences that not only foster technical competence, but also train students to think as scientists in real time.
