Our Alumni Say

"I attended Carolina from 2001-2006 and I have to say that these were the 5 most challenging and intellectually stimulating years of my life. Carolina Chemistry offered me a diverse education in the analytical chemistry areas of spectroscopy, separations, electrochemistry, and mass spectrometry. An added bonus of the diverse education was that all of the chemistry professors are major leaders and contributors in their own specific research areas. It was truly a privilege getting to know all of them.

My education at Carolina involved much more than chemistry, I got experience in electronics, software development, engineering, machining, physics and much more. In addition to the research projects related to my dissertation I was able to contribute to many multidisciplinary projects with other graduate students and professors. I will forever remember the relaxing yet intellectually stimulating atmosphere of Carolina Chemistry and I will cherish my time at Carolina for many years to come.

"You will only be limited by your own creativity and work ethic in the graduate program at Carolina….a program that I look back on fondly, and one that has provided lasting friendships with both faculty and my contemporaries."

Professor Jeffery W. Kelly (Ph.D. 1986)
Department of Chemistry
The Scripps Research Institute

"…the possibility to engage in enlightening discussions with so many bright people, not only the permanently hired professors, but the "temporary" students and the myriad of postdoctorals, provides one as a student a great intellectual challenge that is hard to find elsewhere. From there you derive leadership, creativity, and boldness that have certainly been useful in my career...

Chapel Hill, with its charming and atypical flavor, provided me with a unique environment during these years and will be always remembered as a great experience in my life.
